Plant symbolism and your own notes

A plant can catch your attention without becoming a shopping list.

You might like an illustration, recognise a name from a book, or want to understand a reference you keep seeing. Reading and writing are enough to explore that interest. You do not need to collect, prepare or handle a plant.

Ask what kind of statement you are reading

“A writer described this plant in a particular place and time” is a different claim from “this plant means something to me.” A source can help you investigate the first. Your own words belong to the second. Neither needs to stand in for the other.

When reading a symbolic association, look for a named source and enough context to follow it: who wrote it, where it comes from, and whether the connection is historical, traditional or a modern interpretation. A reference is a starting point for reading, rather than proof that every sentence around it has the same status.

Leave room for uncertainty

A useful note can be as simple as “I have not checked the original passage yet.” That is more honest than turning a connection you encountered today into a universal or ancient rule. You can keep an interpretation that matters to you while being clear about where it came from.

Let a digital collection stay digital

Saving an illustrated card can mean “I want to read more about this.” It does not need to mean “I own this plant” or “I should use it.” Keeping those decisions separate makes a reading collection useful even when you have no garden, materials or wish to gather anything.

Keep your own words distinct

A quoted passage and a personal response serve different purposes. Keep the reference beside the quotation; write your response in your own voice. When you return later, you can see what the source said and what you thought about it, without having to untangle the two.

How Green Witch fits

Green Witch brings source-linked plant reading, illustrated digital collections, guided symbolic projects and private writing together. Its practices are for reading and reflection. Decorative artwork is not a plant-identification tool, and the app does not provide medical, ingestion or foraging guidance.

Source-linked reading, lessons, guided projects, private writing and seven-day seasonal plans starting today remain free.

Premium lets you save advanced plans: 14 or 28 days, a chosen start date, saved-card matching and plant exclusions. Preview these plans for free before deciding. Existing saved records stay readable after Premium expires. Your store shows current prices and eligible offers.
